This paper presents the methodology and data employed in the calculation of cooling load dynamic response of 200,640 zones, representing all reasonable combinations of 14 zone design parameters under ASHRAE Research Project 472. The parameters varied were: zone floor plan, zone height, number of exterior walls, interior shading, furniture, glass fraction, exterior wall construction, zone location, mid-floor construction, slab construction (if present), floor covering, roof type (if present), and ceiling type. The principal tool for this analysis was the DOE-2.1C program, or more specifically, the portion that calculates custom zone weighting factors.
The necessary revisions to DOE-2.1C to reflect assumptions and data appropriate for peak load calculations are described. Because of the massive number of zones analyzed, only sample results are presented here. The use of these results in zone classification and tabulation is presented in a companion paper.
